The local systems are mainly related to farming products. The goal is to reduce intermediaries (maximum one) between producer and consumer. By reducing the intermediaries, we reduce the costing of the products.

In 2010, according to l’ADEME (Environment agency and energy control), the local food supply chain were representing 6 to 7% of the food bought. This proportion is increasing because the way of consumption find itself back to a healthier food (organic, seasonal products, …), which is getting more and more popular around the consumers and which became one of the priority of french gouvernements, especially after the Grenelle de l’Environnement (Big round table to improve France’s impacts on the environment).
Regarding the restaurant industry, more and more chefs favour this kind of provision in order to cook some tasty and quality meals.
So give priority to local food supply chain, and if you save just a bit in term of money, you will increase a lot in terms of quality of your meals and satisfaction of your clients!
Now you just need to find the time to go buy those products. If you use to go to one place, as a specialized supermarket for instance, the alternative is to find a cooperative shop nearby your place, or even more ambitious, to build your own supply chain with some neighbours and local producers.
To find out some producers in your region, go to local markets or on the great smartphone app baladovore, where the chefs register their own producers all over France. Finally, if you look for “local farmer” or “direct selling” in your favorite search engine, you will find lots of links allowing to reach tasty local products …
NB : To go even further, if you have the time and the possibility, think about not to buy your products only to one farmer, butcher. Take the time to choose the best of each producer. Then you will contribute to the local development of many different producers and not just only one…
