The small town of Punta Arenas doesn’t seem to be, at first sight, a major touristic destination, but it is a must for travelers wishing to visit Torres del Paine National Park or to go for a cruise in Tierra del Fuego (going to Ushuaia and Cape Horn).
The small boutique hotel La Yegua Loca, “The Mad Mare” in Spanish, opened there in 2014. Sergio, the owner, has always been “gaucho” in soul, a great lover of horses. With Soledad, his partner also native from the area, they carefully renovated this old colonial style tenement, transforming it into a charming hotel with X rooms.
Many objects from family estancias (farmhouses), diverted from their original purpose, were melted into the scenery of this magnificent establishment, giving it a strong personality. Other handicrafts, more modern but also very beautiful, are also on sale in the lobby.
Each room is associated to a specific theme recalling the history of the region and its inhabitants (sheep shearing, the stable, milking the cows …), offering visitors unique style and experience!
The restaurant located in the heart of this living museum offers fine local cuisine, which can be enjoyed while listening to Patagonian tunes… after all, a very charming and relaxing place, excellent starting point to explore the Chilean Patagonia!
