The Dusun means fruit orchard in Malay. It is also the name of a beautiful lodge located only 1 hour away from the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

For Helen, David, and their five children, this property started as a family retreat. It was developed into a nature resort in 2009.

The Dusun offer 5 houses, each unique and set apart from the others so that guests can enjoy a private environment. The rooms are equipped with everything a family could need (lots of space, fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, private rooms…), but do try out the delicious local meals which can be delivered to your room in lovely traditional pots! The lodge also offers two infinity salt water pools, with beautiful wooden decks, long chairs, and carved benches. There are many nature trails to enjoy on your own around the lodge.

The Dusun honours sustainable development and responsible practices, so as to create a rich and healthy environment. The houses are conceived to adapt to the landscape, and with local architectural techniques. Composting (partially made with chicken shit) and recycling are part of the waste management program. Each chalet is equipped with ecological shampoo and soap. Environmentally safe products are used for the maintenance and housekeeping departments, in order to minimise the negative impact of waste water.

The family is also maintains a great relationship with the locals from the 3 closest villages. Purchases are mainly made from family-owned businesses in the closest city or environmental suppliers in the capital and Penang, and all of the staff are locals from the near-by villages.

The activities are conceived to make the beautiful natural heritage of Malaysia known, and to empower the local traditions, communities and NGO’s. 100% of the price paid for tours & activities are given to the local guides or NGO’s.

The Dusun is also located on the border of the Berembum Forest Reserve, a 4000 hectare protected virgin forest that rises up to 1200 meters. The local jungle guide, Ah Kau, was a responsible hunter/gatherer his entire life, and will gladly share his medicinal plant secrets with you.
