The caiçara community of Bonete is located south of Ilhabela island. This heavenly beach is inhabited by several fishermen families descendants of pirates and african slaves. The community is accessible only by boat or hiking (through the national park and UNESCO natural biosphere reserve of Ilhabela). In fact, the community struggled against a road construction project because they really want to keep their peaceful traditional lifestyle. They got organised through an local ecotourism association. Andre Queiroz, manager of the pretty Pousada Canto Bravo, used to be its President and is still very active supporting a lot its development.
